Maes Law goes Australian!

Not literally of course (at least not yet, but who knows), but as was already announced, Alex(ander) Allwell (24) has joined us from today. He has recently come from Melbourne to the Netherlands for an indefinite period because things have been called to a halt in Australia due to corona. He is currently studying (remotely) a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts at Monash University in Melbourne and has gained extensive experience in Australian politics during his studies, including as a Policy Advisor in the Victorian Parliament in Australia. After that, he also gained experience at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the Hague.

Considering his studies – which he combines with a full-time job at Maes Law! – he joins us as a Legal Intern, initially for one year. Together with Janine van Loggerenberg – of South African origin – he will set up and man the Anglosphere Business desk, both of whom logically have English as their mother tongue and extensive contacts in their countries of origin and the USA. Furthermore, in view of his keen strategic understanding, he will be involved in strategy issues, both in client and office affairs.

We are very pleased with Alex’s arrival; with his infectious humor, enormous intelligence, sharp legal insight and wonderful accent he will undoubtedly make an important contribution to our team and its diversity.
